No Heart in Rock Hall of Fame

Heart-less Hall of Fame bypasses Northwest band

The beloved Northwest rock band Heart was very quietly not selected for induction into Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Wednesday morning.

No big surprise: The selection process is notoriously subjective and there are whole web pages devoted to influential but overlooked acts. But Heart fans got their hopes up last September when the group was short-listed alongside Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, hoping that there might be a groundswell of support for pioneering women in rock.

Ann and Nancy Wilson, the driving duo of Heart, appear to take the process in stride. ("If we actually get inducted, I'll eat my hat," Nancy Wilson told the San Diego Union-Tribune last September.) And fans can take solace in the fact that one of the most recent Northwest inductees into the Hall of Fame, The Ventures, were eligible for 22 years before finally making the cut. (Acts become eligible for selection 25 years after the date of their first recording.) So this song is far from over.
